Hyperliquid USA: Which Market to Use, and When

It is Sunday evening, BTC is moving, and the S&P futures desk is closed. On Hyperliquid, you can still choose between a crypto perpetual and a US-stock perpetual—but they are different trades, even when the interface looks identical.

Use crypto perps for continuous price discovery

BTC and ETH perps are the cleaner choice when your thesis is about crypto itself. Liquidity is usually deeper, the oracle is easier to understand, and funding is the number that tells you what holding the position currently costs. Before entering, check the mark price, index price, funding interval, and liquidation distance. A 10x position that looks modest by notional can still be forced out by a short move against you.

For short-lived trades, market orders are acceptable only when the spread and book depth justify them. Otherwise, place a post-only limit order and decide in advance where the position is invalidated. The important habit is separating the trade from the collateral: keep enough USDC free that one bad wick does not turn a planned stop into liquidation.

Use HIP-3 when the underlying is the point

If your idea is about Nvidia earnings, oil, gold, or an index outside regular exchange hours, a builder-deployed market may be more useful than forcing the view through BTC. But treat these as perpetual contracts tracking an underlying—not shares, voting rights, or delivery of the asset. Check the deployer, oracle, trading hours, leverage cap, funding, and mark-price behavior before sizing up.

That is the practical split for hyper liquid USA: use native crypto markets for the deepest, most familiar execution; use US-equity or commodity perps when access to the underlying price matters more than venue maturity. Smaller books can make slippage and oracle risk the real trade.

For a US-based trader, a wallet connection does not settle whether a particular product is available or permitted for you. Check the current platform terms and your own regulatory position before funding an account. Then start with the smallest size that lets you observe funding, liquidation mechanics, and weekend pricing in real time.
